If you donít know that Sarawak is famous for pepper, you shouldnít read further. Sarawak is the worldís biggest producer of quality pepper, for your info. Pepper is the king of spices and your black pepper steak will be awful without this spice.
Get peppercorns for your friends and family because nothing tastes better than freshly ground pepper from fresh peppercorns. Also, try pepper sweets (which taste like mints so donít worry). Or buy pepper perfume! Or buy pepper sauces in bottles. Where to get? Well, you can find it everywhere in Kuching! If you canít find it, contact us!
Of course you must taste this when you are in Kuching. How can you not? The Sarawak Laksa is pretty addictive. Sure you will get withdrawal symptoms. Donít forget to put the Sambal Belacan (Prawn Paste) in your Laksa, otherwise you will not be able the taste of the Sarawak Laksa to the fullest.
It is actually very different from the curry laksa as the soup contains no curry in its ingredient at all. It has a base of Sambal Belacan,sour tamarind, garlic, galangal, lemon grass and coconut milk, topped with omellete strips, chicken strips, shrimps (sometimes big prawns), fresh coriander and optionally lime. Ingredients such as bean sprouts, sliced fried tofu or other seafood are not traditional but is sometimes added.
